In the goal of profoundly studying, essentially in the frame of narratology, the selection of characters in the great impostor, a historic novel by the morocco-algerian writer M. Ammi kebir published in Paris in 2014, we propose, then apply, a new model where the character is conceptualized as a fictional entity of language and replies. Drawing inspiration from the works of Genette, Barthes, Ewen, Rimmon-kenan, Bal, Hamon and dolezel, we amalgamate the notions of model distance, focalization and narrative instances utilized for identification and qualification in order to analyse how the carachters are built and how the where universe, from where they emerge, is structured. Thus we are in prime position to explain and .......... demonstrate that the study of the character, far from being incompatible with narratology, must be retro-referential.
